In a partnership between LAUSD’s Beyond the Bell and the United States Academic Esports League (USAEL), we're excited to share with you some initial information on the Battle of the Bell - an Esports Program that will bring competition, learning and fun to the BTB community.
The Battle for the Bell Championship is LAUSD’s inaugural esports program customized for LAUSD BTB schools. Students will compete over 4 weeks for the Championship Trophy.
During the program, schools will:
- Receive free professional development and onboarding training
- Have the opportunity to compete in two different esports titles (Rocket League & Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)
- Earn SEL as well as academic benefits for your students
Additionally, students will be enrolled in gaming focused curriculum:
- Pathway Esports: A comprehensive Esports Toolkit -- Start and manage an esports team at your school
- Career Explorations in Esports -- Prepare your students with CTE-aligned career pathway connections
- Intro to game development -- Leverage the excitement of creating games to teach computer science, mathematics, and problem-solving
- SEL & character-based gaming curriculum -- Prepare students to become well-adjusted, health, and productive team players
